The following figures present the proposed layout of the HVAC system for the American Society of Civil Engineers National Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Figure 1 presents the typical layout of the basement and rooftop mechanical rooms are to be placed. Figure 2 presents the typical layout of the supply and return air ducts on all usable floor (Floors 1-19). Because the design of the interior spaces was altered significantly from the Architecture section to the Structural section of this building, the internal spaces of the building were left open, causing the HVAC group to create a typical plan for the duct-work. Figure 3 below shows the HVAC system in section, showing the rooftop and basement floors containing the Boilers, Chillers, and AHU's as well as 3 additional air handling units on floors 5, 10, and 15.
Figure 1. Diagram showing the layout of the basement and top floor mechanical rooms, showing boilers, chillers, air handling units, and supply and return ducts.
The basement and rooftop mechanical floors should be a minimum of 6000 square feet and should contain 800 ton chillers and 1200 ton boilers.
